Amsterdam on Film
___________
Since I've been shooting some film for fun lately I decided to post one from Amsterdam in 2007, shot on Portra VC 160.
edit: Should have also mentioned that I scanned this with the iPhone which is why the image is BW.

How I miss this place sometimes - I think I'm going to fly out over the summer, I must make a photographic excuse though. Here's the first version from a post published last May.

Amsterdam Bridges
___________
This was shot on Portra VC 160 in Amsterdam in the summer of 2007. This is one of the most photographed canals in Amsterdam.

Hanging out in an Amsterdam Apartment
___________
When we got to Amsterdam in 2008 - the hostel we booked was out of rooms. Luckily, the gentleman at the desk remembered Nikola and myself from the year before and gave us our very own apartment for two days - for the same price! This was hours after arriving into Amsterdam and only minutes after we got into the space.

Packing in Hostel Orfeo
__________
This was the day we went home in 2008. The mood was definitely different - I don't think most of us were ready to go home. There's a few reasons for all the Europe photos. I am going through my older images searching for pictures in order to organize my hard drives and find these little bits of awesomeness. Secondly, I am working on other projects... and I miss the place.

Subway Construction on the Damrak

__________
They've been building this subway for years now. Due to the amount of canals Amsterdam has, water tends to get into the soil and soften it. Building a tunnel underground (underneath a river) has been a huge construction challenge and even though a lot of surveying has been done - it can be halted at any time. Amazingly, even with all this construction the city seems to manage as if nothing out of the ordinary was going on. The trams are so efficient that I sometimes question if they really need a subway.
Check out the graffiti just underneath the yellow construction crane. It somewhat looks like a face which has always made me chuckle. This will be the last photograph from 2007 for awhile as I've bombarded this blog with images of that trip in the past week.

Amsterdam Street Cat
_________
I remember walking by this cat in Amsterdam and wondering what was wrong with it because it wasn't very attentive as most cats are. I stopped and took a picture and then came closer to the cat to pet it and leave it some of my chicken nugget. There are a lot of street cats in the city, and usually they're all pretty active but this guy was sick or something - I don't think McDonalds helped the situation either.
My friend, (Neven Matic) has launched his design/media blog. Check it out.

River Behind Centraal Station
__________
As you can see I am going through my images and "reinterpreting" them. This is from 2007 and was shot on 35mm film (Kodak Portra VC 160). I also mentioned that I like to go back and pinpoint where exactly where the image was taken. I can't wait to get a new camera and start geotagging images. That way I can always go back to a location even if I don't know exactly where it is. Also, if there's a point of interest (such as a restaurant, gas, WC, etc) I can take a picture of it and know it's exact position. That will be plenty useful. Oh does anyone know what this river's actual name is?

Streets of Amsterdam
The Streets of Amsterdam, July 2007.
_________
I've been going through my older images trying to find gold that I missed out on. It's been making me really nostalgic lately and I really want to go back soon. Unfortunately I might only be able to go back sometime in the fall or next winter.

Nikola Cleans Off Towel Diptych
Nikola Cleans Off Towel, July 2008.
____________
These were two consecutive frames shot after one another. I haven't done a diptych in years so I decided to revisit. We stayed at this hostel (Stayokay Zeeburg, Amsterdam) that used to be an actual school - it was suprisingly clean too.

We were biking somewhere we had never biked before in Amsterdam and I decided to stop and take a photo of this building because it was interesting. You can see it on Google's Streetview - they rolled it out for Amsterdam finally.
I have also changed the favicon to my new logo. I swear this will be the last time I change it for awhile; I'm really feeling this new one.

Coffeeshop Smokey (Amsterdam)
Coffee Shop Smokey, August 2008.
_________
This was taken in an Amsterdam Coffeeshop. I broke my 50 1.8 a few minutes prior to entering this place and if my memory serves me correctly it was on the last day before we flew out - either that or the day before.
